Captain William Brennan-Smith, the heart behind Fijian Son Fishing Charters, has spent a lifetime on the water. Raised fishing the coasts of New Zealand from the age of seven, the ocean has always been his escape, his teacher, and his passion. That passion followed him across the world when he met his Canadian wife, and eventually moved to British Columbia. It was there, off the rugged coastline of Vancouver Island, that he found a new home and a new chapter in his lifelong love of fishing.
For over 20 years, Captain Will has been guiding trips out of Cheanuh Marina, a place that feels more like family than a workplace. With over three decades of experience on the water, he’s built a reputation not just as a skilled fisherman but as a captain who truly cares about creating memorable, meaningful, and relaxed experiences. His charters are far from the cookie-cutter tours offered elsewhere. When you step aboard his boat, you're not just a customer, you're a friend. “My boat’s your boat,” he says. And he means it. Whether you're an experienced angler or touching a rod for the first time, Will meets you where you’re at. If you want to run gear and get hands-on, he’ll show you the ropes. If you’d rather sit back, relax, and enjoy the views, that’s perfectly fine too.
What sets Captain Will apart is his laid-back, people-first approach. There’s no pressure, no egos , just good fishing and even better company. He doesn’t babysit his clients. Instead, he welcomes them into the full experience, encouraging involvement and curiosity. His goal is to create a day that feels personal, peaceful, and packed with the kind of moments that make you fall in love with fishing, even if it’s your first time.
With deep knowledge of the local ecosystem, versatile fishing techniques, and an easygoing spirit, Captain William Brennan-Smith delivers more than just a successful day on the water; he delivers an experience that’s authentic, inclusive, and unforgettable. Guests don’t just leave with fillets and photos; they leave with a story, a memory, and often, a new friend.
